Later that day, we explored the pit and were thrilled to find dog-tooth calcite crystals covering the walls on the bottom level of the mine! They are the most intricate, delicate crystals we have found yet and are absolutely gorgeous. We found many double-terminated crystals, as well as twins, clusters and more special formations. This camper, and now friend, was kind enough to show us an area on the third level where quartz crystals can be found.Ĭhiseling away at a rock wall to expose pockets of quartz crystals is very different than digging in tailings like we are used to in Arkansas, but it was so fun and rewarding! The quartz crystals found here are all very unique. We were fortunate enough to stumble upon someone camping near the parking area. The large open-pit mine has several different rows to traverse. However, these were especially interesting, as the walls of these caves bore beautiful crystals. It wasn’t until we were on site that we found three different man-made caves! Exploring caves is cool enough in itself. That Camping Couple couldn’t resist an opportunity to find crystals for free.
